I had a small kitchen fire earlier this evening (a grease fire). As a result, there is some smoke damage and soot on the tile of the wall behind the gas range. What is an easy way for me to clean this off? I don’t want (or need) to call a professional fire restorer, because the damaged area is about 1 foot square total. Is there a commercial cleaning solution I can buy at a hardware store?

I am in Los Angeles California and the City of Los Angeles requires that we put a Fire Separation Wall in the room that we have a 100 gallon water heater for a 15 unit apartment. I dont know what that is. I am assuming its a type of drywall or a paint or something that goes on the drywall that will stop a fire if any from burning fast. If anyone knows what it is and where I can get it. Thanks.

I heard that the fire departments pays (a lot of money) to burn down your house for practice. Is this true?

We had a small roof fire after the roofer fixed a leak. He used a torch to melt the membrain roofing. Once the fire trucks arrived (4 trucks 10-20 firemen) it took 15-18 minutes for them to get water on the fire. I was using my hose to control and knock out all visible flames. But I was stopped by the police and had to watch the fire reignite and cause more damage.

The fire extinguisher in our house is over 10 years old. The gauge shows that it is fully charged, and it has never been used. It is dry chemical type ABC. Is it okay to keep it a few more years, and how long should an extinguisher like this normally last?

I need to have someone come into my business and check to see if the fire extinguishers are working. Who can I call? Does the fire department do these types of visits?

My hair dryer caught on fire in my hand yesterday. Literally, flames were coming out of either side of it. I unplugged it and threw it in the tub, watered it until the fire went out.

My fiance said that was not a good idea, but had no idea how to put out an electrical fire. So what do you do?
